AMPLEXOR hosts largest ever Translation Technology User Conference for the German Federal Ministries
April 11, 2017
On 6 April, AMPLEXOR hosted the 2017 edition of the User Conference Translation Technology for the German Government at the GLS German Language School in Berlin, Germany.
The Berlin-based conference is hosted by AMPLEXOR once a year, and it aims to provide insights on the latest translation technology and trends for government employees. The conference highlights new features and demos of SDL Trados and allows attendees to network with SDL Trados Product Managers, AMPLEXOR team members and government colleagues.
This year’s user conference was the largest ever with a total of 59 German government participants (mostly from federal ministries), 10 AMPLEXOR team members and four SDL representatives.
Since 2001, AMPLEXOR has been the German Federal Ministries’ preferred partner to introduce and support SDL Trados Software. “We make sure that the requirements of the German government users are adequately considered when it comes to new developments or changes of the software”, says Dr. Monika Höge, Senior Director Strategic Accounts for AMPLEXOR, who oversees German government accounts.
The event’s program focused on innovations of the latest version of SDL Trados Studio 2017 and the upcoming release of GroupShare 2017. The highlight of the day was a podium discussion on the future of Terminology Management, between two German Government representatives – one from the Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, and the other from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure – an SDL Trados product manager for MultiTerm, and AMPLEXOR Consultant Andreas Ljungström. The audience also contributed to the conversation, while Monika Höge moderated.
By the end of the conference, it became clear that terminology management will remain an important aspect of multilingual communication in government contexts. To meet future requirements, MultiTerm should:
- Make terminology work less time consuming
- Provide integrated tools to support a collaborative terminology lifecycle
- Develop into a knowledge management platform that includes ontological features in addition to terminology management
