AMPLEXOR attends the Swissloop Hyperloop Competition Pod Reveal event in Switzerland
23 May 2018
AMPLEXOR, a proud sponsor of Swissloop – ETH Zurich’s team participating in the Elon Musk Hyperloop Pod Competition – was thrilled to attend the Pod Reveal event held in Dubendorf on 23 May 2018.
AMPLEXOR shares the commitment and passion for innovation and technological development displayed by the driven students from ETH Zurich in their mission to change the future of transportation. AMPLEXOR was excited to be a part of the Pod Reveal Event as the team unveiled their latest design for the 2018 Hyperloop Pod Competition, which will take place on 22 July 2018.
SpaceX Hyperloop Competition Recap
The Hyperloop is a conceptual fifth mode of transportation consisting of levitating high-speed capsules traveling through low-pressure vacuum tubes. The concept was introduced by Elon Musk in 2013 and aims to provide a less expensive, more efficient and more sustainable alternative to existing methods of transportation. The Hyperloop Pod Competition, hosted by SpaceX, was established to accelerate innovation in the field.
Switzerland’s Swissloop has been a fierce contender in the annual competition, coming in third in the SpaceX "Hyperloop Pod Competition II" behind North America’s Paradigm Hyperloop team, which placed second, and Germany’s WARR Hyperloop team, which placed first.
The first two trials of the Hyperloop Pod Competition in 2017 boasted worthy contenders for Swissloop, and this year’s third and final trial is likely to do the same. Swissloop’s vehicle (pod), “Escher,” developed for the 2017 competition, demonstrated its superiority as the only team to employ a cold gas propulsion system (similar to the ones used in rockets) and an aerodynamic carbon fiber hull. SpaceX recognized the Swissloop team by certifying its propulsion system.

Swissloop Unveils New Pod: Mujinga
As with the Hyperloop Competition II in 2017, only student teams may enter the contest, and the "competition will be judged solely on one criteria: maximum speed with successful deceleration (i.e. without crashing)." The difference between the upcoming Hyperloop Competition III and the two test-track competitions in 2017 is all pods must be self-propelled.
AMPLEXOR’s Gilberto Picareta, Manager for Strategic Accounts and Technology Evangelist, and Lorenz Wiegand, Product Manager and Digital Expert, were privy to the exclusive event in which Swissloop unveiled their new Pod, “Mujinga,” named after the fastest Swiss female sprinter, Mujinga Kambundji. Kambundji was an honorary guest at the event and was enthusiastic about the strides the Swissloop team is making to overcome challenges and turn a visionary dream into a reality.
The event was an exciting demonstration of collective drive and passion for breakthrough discovery and revolutionary ideas that AMPLEXOR is privileged to be a part of and support. Swissloop’s pod reveal is yet another step toward ground-breaking technology that will reshape the way we think about transportation.
Celebrating the imaginative and inventive minds of our time, AMPLEXOR will be cheering on Swissloop at the final competition next month. And we’ll use their spirit as inspiration as we do some visionary work of our own.
