Case Study: CultuurNet Vlaanderen - UiTinVlaanderen.be

Problem

UiTinVlaanderen.be has the ambition to become the ‘best in class’ portal site in Flanders and Brussels, offering a complete overview of all (cultural and other) activities in this region. The new site replaces the popular Cultuurweb.be site (5.000 unique visitors/day), and provides more content (including non-cultural), context (related multimedia, restaurants, maps, ...) and interactivity (share, newsletter, widgets, ...). All “UiT-tips” are easy to consult and share for its users. The ultimate goal is to inform people on all cultural and non-cultural events and to stimulate them to participate.

Solution

A web content management solution was proposed, consisting of following elements:

  • faceted navigation
  • integration with backend UIT-search-services
  • integration with EmailGarage
  • media aggregator (YouTube, Flickr, ...)
  • interactivity (poll, competition, comments, rating, ...)
  • personalised services (saved queries ‘agents’, widgets, ...)
  • syndication (RSS, share, ...)
  • ‘dynamic pushes’ (automated publication of related contextual tips)

Five months after the launch (Aug. 09), UiTinVlaanderen.be has already proven to fulfill its ambitions as an appealing, user-friendly, performant and interactive website:
