Privacy Commision (CBPL)
About the project

This project is the first phase of the setup of an Enterprise
Content Management System at the premised of the Privacy Commission of
the Belgian Federal Government.
The goal of the project was
setting up a knowledge base platform for the Commission that can be
used on a day to day basis. This knowledge base includes legal- and
parliamentary documents, jurisprudence, press-releases, advises &
recommendations produced by the commission and its committees. The
platform allows the members of the commission to easily and quickly
retrieve relevant and up to date information regarding privacy.
To cope with documents in multiple languages and to be able to narrow or broaden search results a thesaurus was setup containing concepts related to the Privacy Commission.
How?
The Knowledge Base Platform was set up by Amplexor at the premises of the Privacy Commission. The base platform was Documentum 5.3 and a customised Webtop application.
MultiThes is used as the specialized tool to manage the thesaurus. It enables to export the information in XML format. An easy mechanism is setup by Amplexor to integrate the thesaurus into Documentum.
Both a functional and a thematic structure were setup to allow different approaches to the same content. Based on the object type and its metadata an auto-classification was created. This forces the specific business rules and limits the amount of human interactivity when creating and importing new content.
The project started in July 2006 with a good analysis of information architecture. Together with the future responsible of the thesaurus best practices were communicated and a first (limited) version of the thesaurus proposed. After the implementation in August and September, after the final User Acceptance Tests the platform was validated. The Knowledge Base is in production mode since October 2006.
