Website Optimization: the iterative web

How web analytics, performance management and iterative web design lead to better websites.
The traditional lifecycle of a website is a typical major revamp every 3 to 5 years. This "Big Bang" approach is based on a discontinuous cycle, where every redesign results in a completely new website with a different user interface and navigation. This 'revamp cycle' creates a break with the past and forces the users to rediscover an entirely updated site - thus creating a disruption in the user experience.
Iterative web design is an alternative approach where website optimization is done continuously. The website is monitored constantly in order to get actionable insights. Quantitative and qualitative analytics are the justification for small incremental steps, which remediate the weaknesses of a site, while building further on its strengths.
Website optimization can be done through several analytical perspectives. In this seminar, we will focus on 2 instruments:
- Web analytics as a driver for iterative design: actionable insights result in incremental steps towards a better website. Besides a conceptual session on how web analytics can lead to actionable insights, we will also give an overview of the web analytics vendor market, which changed dramatically by the entrance of 'free' tools.
- Performance Management: website performance is an important factor in the user experience. We will explain how you can measure and improve the performance of your website. In a second session, we will present the case of Belgium.be and explain how they built in high performance and availability when blueprinting the new website.
